Now that you’ve received your Invisalign braces, you’re on your way to a brand new you! Here are a few tips to keep your Invisalign aligners clean and free of damage.

  1. Clean your aligners before wearing them. Make sure your hands are clean and wash them one at a time.
  2. Never us denture cleaner or mouthwash on aligners. Use a soft toothbrush.
  3. Don’t bite aligners into position as that may damage them.  Use your fingertips to apply gentle pressure until the aligner snaps into place.
  4. Wear your aligners for 20-22 hours per day. The aligners only work if they are in your mouth. They’re invisible so no one can see them.
  5. If you’re eating or drinking anything other than cool water, you will need to remove your aligners to prevent discolouring or damaging them.
  6. Try to brush and floss after every meal. If that’s not possible, rinse your mouth and clean your aligners by holding them under running water.
  7. Always keep your aligners in their case when you’re not using them to prevent loss and protect them.
  8. Only use your fingers to remove the aligners. Report any difficulty you have removing them to your doctor.
  9. When switching to a new set of aligners, make the switch in the evening. make sure to wear the new set of aligners for at least twelve hours.
  10. If you experience some discomfort with your aligners, talk to your doctor about taking over the counter medication. New aligner discomfort is common and generally subsides within a few days.
